General information only
The content of this site is patient education. It describes why skin tone becomes uneven, how the categories are told apart, and what treatment costs in time, consistency and downtime. It is not a diagnosis, it is not a treatment recommendation for any individual, and it does not create a doctor-patient relationship.
No substitute for examination
Which cause is behind your unevenness, and how deep it sits, depend on findings that can only be established by examining you: the distribution of the change, what the skin does under pressure, how the surface behaves in raking light, what you are using on it, and sometimes the results of blood tests. Reading this site cannot substitute for that, and a routine chosen from a website alone is a routine chosen without a diagnosis.
Results vary and are not guaranteed
Individual results differ, treatment works over months rather than days, and no clinician and no website can guarantee an outcome. Any statement that appears to promise one should be treated with suspicion wherever you encounter it. Pigment that fades returns with further unprotected exposure, melasma relapses, and the tendency to flush is managed rather than removed.
If something changes quickly
If a mole or spot changes in size, shape or colour, begins to itch, bleed or fail to heal, or if darkening develops over weeks rather than years, away from sun-exposed skin, or with tiredness, weight change or yellowing of the eyes, seek medical assessment rather than a cosmetic opinion.
